You could be right down the street but if you don't have an online presence, new customers may pass you by in favor of the ones that do. Having an online presence doesn't necessarily mean that you need to sell your products over the Internet. You could simply have a website that explains who you are, what you do or sell along with your phone number and directions to your establishment.

If you run service oriented business as opposed to one that sells products, a web presence can be a great help to your customers and potential customers. You could even set up a calendar where customers could make appointments online, check prices, and ask questions. You could also offer online testimonials from other, local, satisfied customers that would help to build your brand.

Many times, people are simply searching for information and may run across your site if you have included articles and other helpful information about your business. For example, if you are in the dog grooming business, you could include articles about dogs on your website along with before and after pictures (make sure you get permission from the dogs' owners first).

You don't have to be a computer geek or extremely tech savvy to set up your own website and you can do it in most cases for under $20 and then just maintain it by paying a nominal fee once a year. The important thing to realize is that today's consumers are online and that is where your business should be too. They are online at work and at home.
